Watch out for floating Ice Bergs!

From the article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091211/wl_afp/australiaantarcticaiceberg

We now have to be aware of floating icebergs. Due to the rising temperature of the Oceans, Antartica has been experiencing a decline of Ice leading to chipping of Icebergs from the continents shore. These massive Icebergs float around the Ocean and now have become a threat to places like Australia.

So next time you're planning that cruise vacation, be on the look out for the floating bergs, even if it's the dead of summer.

Say goodbye to the Warmest Decade Ever.

According to this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091208/ap_on_sc/climate

As we bid farewell to the decade of the milenia, the United Nations gathered in COPENHAGEN and announced that this decade is very likely to be the warmest since record-keeping began in 1850, and 2009 could rank among the top-five warmest years, the U.N. weather agency reported Tuesday on the second day of a pivotal 192-nation climate conference.

In some areas — parts of Africa and Central Asia — this will probably be the warmest year, but overall 2009 "is likely to be about the fifth-warmest year on record," said Michel Jarraud, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization.

The decade 2000-2009 "is very likely to be the warmest on record, warmer than the 1990s, than the 1980s and so on," Jarraud said at a news conference, holding up a chart with a temperature curve pointing upward.

It's Snowing.. EVERYWHERE!

There was a blizzard last night, which is not so uncommon for the month of December, but in the mid-west?! Places like reno, nevada and New Mexico were covered under a blanket of snow. Last time i checked, it was suppose to be hot in the dessert!

This storm stretched from California to Indiana, gathering strength as it raced eastward. So all you eastern people better prepare for a crazy storm.

Are you ready for it to be 6°c warmer?

Well i'm not.. 6° might sound like nothing but the effects that it would have WILL inevitably affect us all.

CO2 Emissions rose by 29% between 2000 and 2009, when it was suppose to go down, causing this prediction. If we keep at this rate then 6° will be nothing compared to the rise in temperature. We already hit the point of no return. The only thing left for us to do now is drastically change our carbon usage to bring the number from 6° to 2°. But no matter what happens, Global Warming is here. NOW...

Debunking 2012

I just read the worst article EVER! http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/afp-nasa-2012-myths.html

It's about the movie 2012 and how NASA is trying to factualize it's fiction. However, they do a really bad job at it. First they talk about some crazy theory that our planet will collide with some planet X hidden somewhere. Then they talk about the Mayan calender: "NASA insisted the Mayan calendar in fact does not end on December 21, 2012, as another period begins immediately afterward. And it said there are no planetary alignments on the horizon for the next few decades. "

Umm sorry kids, nice try but this doesn't say anything about the beginning of the end.

Effects of Global Warming.. Stinging Jellies

So I've officially decided to comment on everything I see, feel, read about the effects of Global Warming and post them for you all to see. (hopefully I keep this up)

Because the oceans are getting warmer, different species are migrating to areas never seen before. An abundance of Jellyfish are being found in various areas where fishermen normally fish, causing hardship on the fishermen returning with no catch for the day.

The article below references that overfishing among other things could have caused the jellies to over-populate and the warming of the tides to move them closer to shores.

So next time you're at the beach, watch out for the stinging jellies!

Say hello to global warming...

I'm thinking of a way to balance out my time in order to provide up-to-date blog posts... I'll figure it out soon, i promise...

But for now, i must say this...
The weather is freaking me out!! Its only the beginning of may! Last week was a scorching 90+ degrees.. as wonderful as that might feel after coming out of a dreadful winter, IT IS NOT NORMAL!

Why is no one figuring this out?? Until people start getting scorched by UV-rays or something, no one is going to give a rats ass about Global Warming. IT is not a myth Nor is it something to worry about in the future.. It is HERE!! NOW!!!

Also, Why isnt the media making a big deal about the lakes and rivers that are over-flowing in Kansas and Michigan? People are loosing their homes, their lives, and yet the severity of what's to come has not been realized...

IDK wat i can do.. IDK wat we should do.. but wat i do know is that we are not safe from the elements any longer..

Would you want to know you're going to die?

I was talking to my friends about 2012... and they were really uncomfortable with the notion of a catastrophe happening in 3 years. They said, 'they rather not know about stuff like that; what's the point'.
I was thinking about this and it makes perfect sense. People rather be ignorant because ignorance really is bliss. And the notion of 2012 is not widely discussed b/c everyone would go apeshit. It would be mad chaos.
Remember back in 1999 when Y2k was this huge phenomenon and everyone was really scared something huge was going to happen. Well it didnt, so all we can be is hopeful. But personally, I think ignorance is the biggest form of weakness known to mankind, so I will not buy into bliss... I want to know everything there is to know about the world we live in and i will stop at nothing to gain the knowledge that i need to make an educated decision about my future.

What's the point of knowing that something is going to happen if you can't do anything about it?

The point is KNOWING.

2012 Phenomenom..

I'm trying really hard not to buy into all the bullshit i read and see online and on tv, but i must say that i have grown rather convinced that we should all be aware of what is being said about 2012.
At first i thought it was just another one of those damn movies being made about the end of the world and all that nonsense, but it's MUCH more than that. I'm at the beginning stages of my research on this, and as i learn more, ill keep posting on it. As I post, im going to try to keep it as 'elementary' as possible b/c if you're not used to fancy shmansy vocab, then you're going to get lost and uninterested and TRUST me, you do NOT want to loose interest in this.

I will try my best to stay committed to this blog and use it as my notebook for research, if anyone happens to become remotely interested in it, feel free to comment and all that good stuff.

So it all began with the Mayas...
In college i minored in Latin American Studies therefore i have pretty good general knowledge of the Mayan culture. A mesoamerican civilization (meaning that they originated in what is now known as latin america - specifically central america.) A Pre-Colombian society (meaning that they thrived before Chris.Colombus 'discovered' america in 1492 -and were fucked after that. Think of the pilgrims and indians story after thanksgiving dinner).
Many people associate them with the Incas or the indigenous peoples of central america. Although, many cultural aspects have been shared and past down from the Mayas, the indigenous peoples are FAR removed from the Mayan civilization of back then. Dating back to 2000 B.C! the Mayas are one of the oldest recorded civilizations of man kind.
The Mayas have a bad reputation of being barbaric because of their belief in human sacrifices. But DO NOT let this minor detail deter you from understanding their beliefs. YES, human sacrafices are WRONG, but they didn't know any better.
What they DID know was how to count time, and seasons according to the movement of the sun. They were obbssessed! The sky was their TV and the sun was a really good show. They would watch it ALLLLLLL the time. They would record its every move and even worship it! (equivalent of gossip girl.. chuck bass would be the sun). They would know everything about the sun, they could even predict what it would do next. (Like how everyone knew chuck would go ape-shit once his dad died, or something like that.)
Anywho, they had their own way of telling time. They used the mesoamerican long count calender AKA the Mayan Calender which started on August 11th, 3114 B.C. The calender records the number of days that pass since this date. There is no proven reason (or i have yet to find one) on why this date is used as day #1. Some people claim that it is the first day of humanity, but i really dont know about all that.

I'll go more into detail about this later..

I'm a Blogger!

I'm experiencing a serious need to be proactive. I think it has something to do with the new job i have. I work for an economic development organisation, but I don't feel like I'm making a difference.
I was making a difference at my old job, as far removed as i may have been. It was a non-profit international development org. And it was GREAT. But thanks to the damn recession, I was laid off. Luckily, i found this job within 2weeks of being unemployed. But now, I'm here, at my desk, in a cubicle, desperate to find some relief. So, I'm writing a blog. I have yet to know what it's going to be about. But so far, it's about me. So I hope you don't resent me for being self-involved, but i need some therapeutic relief and this is how I'm going to get it.
